From March 31st – October 31st 2013, the city of Lucca will present nightly concerts (that’s right, seven days a week!) celebrating the music of native son Giacomo Puccini, Italy’s most beloved composer. All performances will be held in the beautiful Church of San Giovanni in the heart of Lucca. During the months of February and March (and after October 31st), concerts are performed only on Friday and Saturday evenings. We were fortunate to attend one of these concerts two years ago and it was simply extraordinary, both for the setting and the superb singers and musicians. The festival is called Puccini e la sua Lucca; details can be found by visiting the official website.
While in Lucca, visit the newly opened Puccini Museum housed in Puccini’s boyhood home.
For Puccini and opera fans, treat yourself to The Ways of Giacomo Puccini, a lovely, fully illustrated hardcover book that chronicles the life of the great composer. Published in Lucca by Maria Pacini Fazzi Editore, this book is available exclusively through EyeItalia!
